Ha Swikota - Rural Education Support Programme

130 counselors / fieldworkers were trained and support groups established at 45 rural healthcare facilities in the Bohlabela district of Mpumalanga. This cadre of staff also provided support to two ARV treatment sites in the form of tracing and tracking of patients who had not arrived for scheduled appointments.

Local NGO’s and CBO’s working in the area were also provided with the opportunity to attend educational workshops on HIV/AIDS. In 2008 this programme was handed back to the local authorities to manage with HIVSA providing continued support in the form of updated training to the counselors and fieldworkers.
