Digital Business Developer

HIVSA is looking for a dynamic, passionate, and energised Digital Business Developer to support the commercialisation of its online platform Choma ( HIVSA launched Choma online platform in 2013 in response to an identified need and urgency around reducing HIV prevalence amongst Adolescent Girls and Young Women (AGYW). The magazine, which posts content around five content pillars namely, Love and Relationships, Sex and Pregnancy, Health, Fashion and Beauty and Inspiration has been hugely successful with a solid base of returning and new users, which currently stands at a cumulative 4 million since inception. The magazine has always been operational through donor funding. HIVSA has a vision to grow the platform both in terms of its content, relevance, and geographical coverage.

Given the current and potential access the platform has to female users, a strategy for the commercialisation of Choma that aims to access corporate sponsorships to generate revenue for Choma has been developed. This for-profit strategy will be housed under Community Development Solutions SA (CDSSA), HIVSA’s for-profit entity.

Scope of work

CDSSA seeks to contract the services of a digital business developer for the following outputs:

  1. Devise an implementation strategy to activate CDSSA through the operationalisation of the Choma online platform.
  2. Support the development, marketing, and analysis of a nationwide survey for girls and women.
  3. Utilise the data from the survey to identify products and services to be offered on the platform.
  4. Create a value proposition for corporate sponsorships and/or advertising aligned to the products and services above.
  5. Shape and lead specific go-to-market entry and expansion.
  6. Accountable for profitable revenue growth from selected industry sector/s.
  7. Participate in developing digital sales and marketing platforms through engagement on social media platforms.
  8. Support the development of a three-year cost, profit model, growth strategy, and revenue generation activities.
  9. Mapping potential corporate sponsors, securing sponsorship deals and supporting the development of sponsorship contracts.

Qualifications and previous experience required

  1. Relevant qualification in sales, digital marketing, and business development.
  2. Proven experience, more than 5 years, in developing and executing sales and marketing plans
  3. Proven track record in developing brand awareness and shaping client experience through a balanced client engagement approach.
  4. A collaborator and influencer who forges transformational partnerships.
  5. Have the ability to develop organisational capabilities and competencies in the digital business environment.
  6. Have the ability to align business development with a thorough market understanding.
  7. Have a strong network of business contacts that align with this scope of work.
  8. Provide 3 samples of the most recent work aligned to this scope of work.

Shortlisted applicants will be required to present the following:

  1. A portfolio of evidence demonstrating a track record of activating start-up entities and supporting their growth to a point of profit-making.
  2. A presentation of the proposed activities to be undertaken under each of the outputs listed above including a motivation/ “sales pitch” for employment.
